Video Creation For Music Teachers

Video Creation For Music Teachers is an online course for teachers who want to create playalongs, tutorials, end-of-year showcases and yes, even virtual ensemble videos.

Hi, I'm Katie

I am an education technology trainer, speaker and consultant from Melbourne, Australia. I run my own business – Midnight Music and I love working with adult learners.  I’ve trained thousands of teachers from all over the world – both online and in person – for around 12 years and I still get a thrill when someone learns something new and exciting!

I have often said that one of the most useful things I’ve learnt in recent years is how to create and edit videos.  It’s something I truly love doing (seriously!) and my video projects have included everything from simple tasks (cropping unwanted sections and adding fade-ins and titles) to more advanced work (ex. scripted screencast tutorials with annotations). I’ve even worked to create more complex timed music videos with hundreds of images that change every two beats of the music! I’ll teach the best and easiest ways to do it all!

Join me inside the Video Creation
for Music Teachers online course, and I'll
show you how you can create a range of video projects. And we will have fun doing it!

Let’s take a closer look at what
you’ll learn inside...

You will get ongoing access to: STEP-BY-STEP ONLINE COURSE WITH 5 MODULES

Each module walks you through a video project via bite-sized, binge-able tutorials. You’ll learn the basics of creating your own video projects, plus a whole range of ninja tricks to help you work smarter and faster.

Module 1

How to create effective tutorial videos

Module 2

How to make playalong videos (simple)

Module 3

How to make a video montage or concert showcase

Module 4

How to make playalong videos (advanced) and how to use a green screen

Module 5

How to create a virtual choir or band or multitrack a cappella video

100% online, self-paced learning...

Grow your skills after school, in holiday breaks, or in between classes!

Here’s why teachers across the globe love
Midnight Music’s courses...

Tailored to your unique music
classroom experience

Your classroom is unlike any other (and can feel like an epic symphony of chaos and fun!). So when it comes to adding technology to the mix, what works in a science lab or English class won’t always apply to your classroom. Inside the Midnight Music Community, you can access customised training that does.

Training, tools & coaching that
speak your language

Avoid sifting through countless Youtube videos for answers, or relying on generic Professional Development training. Access step-by-step advice from someone that understands your needs. And, that can help you through any challenge in plain english (no “tech-speak”), even if you have ZERO experience or confidence with tech.

High-quality, ready-to-use
resources for your classroom

From our tutorial videos, to course videos, to ready-to-use templates and more, we only create the highest quality, professional resources. Unlike some free Pinterest templates and Youtube tutorials, you can plug these into your lesson plans with ease.

Advice From Actual Experts in Music
Education & Tech

Our team has decades of experience driving outstanding student results using technology in music classrooms. When you need advice, you won’t just get an opinion of what might work, but a proven solution to your problem from real experts.

Hear from these members

of the Midnight Music Community…

You have been so helpful! I have never been a techy person but after going through your webinars, I feel more at ease and think “I can do this.” Thank you.

Charis Murphy

How much do I love having found you?!!! Your youtube video on how to create flashcards has allowed me to create 4 levels of a piano curriculum series. The pace and detail of your videos are so perfect. You always directly teach the subject, again, answering questions before they arise and I never find myself thinking, “just get to the point.”I just discovered your website and I can’t wait to see what else I can learn from you. You are wonderful in      every way!

Jeffrey Pettijohn

Thank you for all the incredible webinars and trainings I have learnt so much in the last 6 months, that I wish I’d known sooner. I appreciate all that you do to share the knowledge you have.

Meet Katie Argyle

Midnight Music founder, global music teacher educator,
and your classroom’s new best friend

I’m on a mission to take the fear factor out of using technology in music education. Over the past 12+ years, I’ve travelled the world, training thousands of teachers at countless schools, and speaking at over 100 conferences globally. Let me tell you – if you’ve ever thought you were an anomaly when it came to music-technology-overwhelm… you’re absolutely not!

Truthfully, there are so many incredibly smart and highly capable teachers feeling limited in their ability to make an impact on their student’s lives… all because of tech overwhelm. Afterall, music technology is the new kid in town, taking classrooms by storm and helping educate, engage, and inspire students in their love for music… that is, when it’s not wreaking havoc on your sanity, and causing major classroom disruptions!

frequently asked questions

Then you will be amongst friends 🙂 This course assumes no prior knowledge and everything is explained clearly, without “tech-speak” or jargon. The aim is to get you started quickly and easily in a friendly and supportive environment.

The courses and training materials are all pre-recorded. You have ongoing access to all materials for as long as you have an active membership to the Midnight Music Community and you can go completely at your own pace. There are no deadlines!

The course videos can be watched at any time day or night. You can also re-watch each one as many times as you like, which is perfect if you need a refresher down the track!

You will need to have ONE of the following:

  • GarageBand on Mac (not the iPad version*)
  • Soundtrap for Education (must be education version. Works on Macs, PCs and Chromebooks)
  • Bandlab for Education (must be education version. Works on Macs, PCs and Chromebooks)

*Note for iPad users: the GarageBand app on iPad is quite different to the desktop Mac version. This course is designed for the Mac version, but if you’re interested in learning about the iPad version I already have a separate course which is specifically designed for that. You can access that course (and all other Midnight Music courses) inside the Midnight  Music Community.

This course is designed for the Mac/desktop version of GarageBand – not the iPad app (which is quite different).  Most of the projects in this course could be adapted for the iPad app so if you are confident doing that, feel free to join us!

The good news is that if you’re interested in learning about the iPad version of GarageBand I already have a separate course which is specifically designed for that. You can access that course (and all other Midnight Music courses) inside the Midnight  Music Community.

No, not at all. You can do this entire course just using your laptop, the inbuilt mic and some (wired) headphones.

If you’d like to know more about mics or MIDI keyboards with a view to purchasing something for yourself and/or for your students, there will be information available in the first module of the course and also in the pre-course materials (in case you want to purchase something ahead of the start date).

Yes! A professional development certificate which outlines the contact hours and “homework” hours is offered for this course (and every other Midnight Music course).

This course is ONLY available via a subscription to the Midnight Music Community (MMC). The good news is that if you join the MMC for this course, you will instantly gain access to ALL the other courses inside the MMC. There are no deadlines – everything is available for as long as you have a current membership.

If you are already a member, you don’t need to do anything! You will get access to the course materials as soon as they are live.

Yes you do! This course is only available inside the Midnight Music Community training library. If you are already a member, you will get access to the course materials as soon as they are live.  If you’re not a member yet, come and join us! We’d love to welcome you 🙂

I tried one-off course payments when I first started running online courses back in 2012. It was ok, but there were a couple of problems. Firstly, teachers wanted ONGOING access to the course materials – longer than the 6 months I was able to grant them with the old setup. Secondly, some teachers also wanted to take 2, 3, 4 or sometimes 5 of my courses (I had 3 teachers do a total of 5 courses each over a couple of years and many other do 3 or 4 courses!) and the cost involved in paying for each one separately was mounting up.

With the Midnight Music Community subscription plan, you choose: you can pay for access for as long as you need it and instead of being forced to select just one single course, you are able to access ALL the courses and resources at once. That way you can choose to study what is important to you at any given time.

In the past, access to just ONE online course was around $200 and if you come along to one of my full-day workshops you’ll pay around $180-$300 per teacher. The annual cost of joining the Midnight Music Community for a FULL 12 MONTHS is less than $500 and if you need a more affordable option you can pay by the month. In addition, you get daily access to me – ask questions and share your frustrations and the I’ll do my best to solve them for you.

There are two payment options.

  • The annual membership saves you some money: you pay for just 10 months, but get access for 12. There is a purchase order option available (if your school requires that) or you can pay via credit card
  • Alternatively, you can “pay as you go” with our monthly membership option (payment by credit card only)

You can cancel your membership at any time. Just make sure you do that a few days before the next payment is due.

The course modules will be  released during July and August 2022:

  • Modules 1 and 2: 11 July
  • Modules 3 and 4: 18 July
  • Module 5: 25 July
  • Module 6: 1 August
  • Module 7: 8 August

Each module includes video tutorials, teacher tips and walkthroughs and a project that you will do for “homework”.

The time length of each module varies, but if you’d like a ball-park amount (!) there is roughly 1 hour of “contact” time (videos, sharing work) and 1-2 hours of “homework” time per module.
