What do you teach and where?
I am a leading teacher in Performing Arts at Hampton Primary School. I teach classroom music and also manage the 15 instrumental teachers we have.
Name one favourite technology tool or resource that you’ve used in your music teaching
I recently came across a virtual piano video that makes kids sound like a real composer. It’s a trick – it uses the pentatonic scale.
You can take a look at the video here (or click on the picture below).
Briefly describe one tech success you and/or your students have had during a lesson
I love taking the kids step by step through the GarageBand iPad app, including the voice distortion (applying effects) and composing using Live Loops.
What’s your next music tech goal?
Perhaps more sound looping.
Tell us why you decided to join the Midnight Music Community. What’s your favorite thing about it?
Being able to ask questions and share great resources!
What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing when it comes to music technology in education?
Not enough devices!
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new music teacher regarding the use of technology in music education what would it be?
Do some professional development with Katie. It gives you confidence to try new stuff.
