Here’s the first of a series of short tutorial videos: how to copy snippets of music from Sibelius across to Word. In this example I show you how you can use the technique to create melodic flashcards. And you don’t need to use Word – it also works with Pages for Mac, Open Office, Powerpoint, Keynote and interactive whiteboard software programs.
If you’re a Kodaly or Orff advocate, you’ll know how useful it can be to use melodic and rhythmic flashcards to reinforce learning in the music classroom. This first tutorial shows you how to create a short melody in Sibelius and then copy it across into Microsoft Word where you can reformat it and print it out. The same technique can be used to place musical examples within an essay.
Look out for the follow-up tutorial about creating rhythmic flashcards with stick notation.

Hi Katie,
This is pure gold. Thanks for your help.
All about option G for .sib graphic selection. I have the sib 6 instruction manual which wants command G
but run on 7.5 which NEEDS option G!
Thank you!
Best wishes,
Richard
You’re welcome Richard! Happy it helped 🙂
Hi Katie,
it doesn’t work for me with open office – do you have an idea why not?
I copy it the way you show it and paste in open office but nothing appears.
Thanks,
Martina
Hi Martina – no I don’t know why it won’t work in Open Office. I don’t use it so can’t help there. You could try exporting the image out of Sibelius first (select the graphic and then go to File > Export > Image). Save it to your desktop and then import it into Open Office as you would any other image. It’s just a little extra step but should work ok.
